OK, so I'm thinking of jumping on a plane on Sunday night and working from the New York City office Monday and Tuesday and then hopping on a plan Wednesday morning back to Chicago. Why would I do this? To go to the NRO party on Monday and Fitz on Tuesday, of course!
It is a big gamble. I would be betting that I don't get called for a project or work that they expect me to to in Chicago for either day. This is a safe bet, but one that if wrong could be bad. To be safe I would pack a week's worth of clothes in case I needed to jet off in a hurry.
I might run it past a few colleagues this weekend to get their advice.
UPDATE: I think I may have a solution that would be a safe alternative: book a flight for Monday afternoon. This would allow me to run it past the people who would need to be fine with it and if necessary change it to be later in the day or Tuesday so I can at least do Fitz. It might mean I miss Turtle Bay, but at least I can finally make Fitz! Will update as I continue to sort this out...
ADDITIONAL UPDATE: This morning I ran it past the Powers That Be and the Powers That Be said, "Do this work." So, while I found affordable flights and was willing to put up the money for the hotel, I would end up working all night anyway, missing Fitz. It had to be these two days that they actually want me to do something, wouldn't it? That is life. I am sad, especially since I got Armavirumque all excited. Sorry guys! Down with Corporate America! (There at least I sound like the people in NYC.)
