Friday we leave for the Misspent summer compound, so internet presence will be spotty at best, regardless of what POPS says. But I leave on a good note. I checked for my grades today and needless to say I am happy. Whoo hoo!

Glad to hear you're happy. Have a good time at the Misspent summer compound. All the best to POPS & MOMS.

Thank you, Card.
The trip up here was very relaxing. Wisconsin is beautiful this time of year. I was talking to POPS and MOMS on the way up and I've really developed a whole new perspective on this American Idol thing. I think I was going a little overboard with Katherine. Don't get me wrong, I still think she's good, but as POPS said, she just doesn't have the showmanship that Taylor has. MOMS even has a Taylor Hicks button she wears with him in the middle of one of his spazz attacks. Last week they told me they managed to vote for him 17 times between those three Idol phone numbers he had. Talk about fans!
I am posting this on the computer at Dr. Greenbaum's Fishmongery (or some such odd name)and have to go because POPS wants to get down to the grocery store before it closes (hours are rather limited up this way). I will post when and where I can as the opportunity presents itself.
Tomorrow: The Annual POPS-Misspent canoe race. See ya.

I almost couldn't go through with the canoe race this morning. I stayed up last night watching "High School Musical" (which, BTW, is really great) and made myself sick eating Ho-hos and beef jerky. I don't think I would have gotten sick but I was drinking beer and then switched to blackberry brandy. Big mistake!
Anyway, I won the canoe race inspite of feeling like crap. AND inspite of POPS cheating. He took off before MOMS shot the rifle and tried to pretend that he hadn't. Like I don't have eyes in my head. When I caught up with him I smacked him in the back of the head with my canoe paddle. He didn't see that coming. Anyhow, he got so damn mad and was so intent on hitting me back that when he stood up and took a swing at me, he flipped his canoe. What an idiot!
After the race, POPS had to go home and get in bed with a hot water bottle and a hot chocolate so he doesn't get pneumonia. He sent me to Wiley's Filling Station for gas for the catamaran (floating bar!)as a punishment for what he called my "piss poor sportsmanship." That's where I'm posting this update from -- on Mr. Wiley's ancient Dell.

Nice to see that you took all your relationship issues with you when you went to Wisconsin. Well, except for McPheever.

Wow! I didn't get up until 3pm. Can you believe it? We went out on the S.S. Drunkathon last night. AKA the catamaran. It's actually just this square platform mounted on pontoons with a roof to keep the rain out, an engine so that we can become a drunken danger to other boaters, and a rail so that POPS doesn't end up in the drink for the second time in one day.
POPS, having recovered from the canoe outing, served as skipper of the Drunkathon. I was drafted into service as the bartender. And MOMS was the evening's dictator, ordering up large amounts of cosmopolitans and double-chocolate hummers. We took the Misspent sibling's boom box with us and played lots of Sinatra (POPS request), some Anne Murray (for MOMS), and of course, Pat Benatar and Carrie Underwood for yours truly.
I must say the evening was a lot more fun than I thought it was gonna be. And it just kept getting better and better as the evening rolled on. Only three minor mishaps:
1) Some guy across the lake started swearing a blue streak at around 1am because POPS had cranked up the Sinatra loud enough to wake the dead. POPS just yelled back and told him to shut his "pie hole." Funny how brave POPS is when we're on a boat in the middle of a lake.
2) MOMS tossed her cookies (dinner overboard) at around 1:45. Appropriately enough it was during an Anne Murray CD. Frankly, listening to that made me a little sick too.
3) And here's the best for last. POPS knocked the end of the dock off trying to bring the catamaran in like he thought he was in the Indianapolis 500 -- instead of on a boat dead drunk. Oh well, as he'd say to me, "What did you expect?"

Do you suppose they've gotten lost up there?

Perhaps it's taking a bit of time to recover from Katherine losing to Taylor.
Wisconsin may be a very melancholy place this Memorial Day.
And now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go over to the Idol site and get my Hicks Fix -- Taylor singing "Taking It To the Streets." Tafkaq, you should go over there and have a listen, it really is good.
