Last weekend I went to a party with a unique theme. Midgets. The reason for the party was a movie, The Terror of Tinytown, which I had never heard of but will never forget. Have you heard of it?
In case you haven't heard of it, let me tell you a little about it before I tell you about the party. The movie is a musical Western made in 1938. Why would someone (not me, mind you) throw a party for a musical Western made in 1938? Because the entire cast was comprised of midgets. They rode ponies. They could walk under, not through, the doors to the saloon. It was, to put it mildly, superb. Now, I am sure that there is a not so pleasant backstory to the film and, quite honestly, it is exceedingly exploitative. But this doesn't stop us from watching The Wizard of Oz, does it?
C'mon. Is that not tremendous? The best part is the dude playing the bass and the dude drinking the beer. Twice!
Not only was the film enjoyable (we had to pause it a few times so I could start breathing again, I was laughing so hard) but the party was good, too. Everything was small. There were mini-pizzas, mini-eggrolls, mini-donuts, mini pints of ice cream and mini cans of pop. I brought mini bottles of booze. You could say there were many, or mini things to love.
Have you seen Tod Browning's film "Freaks"?

Yes, and Terror of Tinytown is a much more pleasant experience.

Undoubtedly so. But probably less edifying.
