Deutschland, ich komme nicht mehr. It is my sad duty to report to that Misspent will not be spending his summer basking in the warm glow of the German sun as he did last summer. His application for funding was denied. The competition was tough, he expected it to be, and his application was not very strong--thrown together on the last day. What? Misspent wasting an opportunity because of his sinful, slothful nature? No! That would be totally out of character, oder nicht?
Perhaps this is for the best, since the memory of being in Berlin for the World Cup was so fine that anything less would be a terrible letdown. As it is, I will remember her fondly. So at least for now, my fair Deutschland, I must say "Bis später"--until later--and "Auf Wiedersehen my Dear"
At least we'll get to see more of you.
