I only have two more papers left, having churned out two rather slapdash attempts at intellectual insight in the past week (the last of which is a really shoddy pile of words and thoughts that have no business being together). Have to do a conference thingy on Monday. But this morning/afternoon I was able to travel a little bit. I went to Europe.
Today was the EU in DC day and a lot of the EU countries' embassies had an open house. The lady and I didn't go to all of them, but we did a few. Unfortunately, they were all the ones I wanted to see, and none of the ones she did since hers closed earlier than I thought they did. So I went to Germany this morning, then to Slovenia and then to Austria and Slovakia. I even went to the "EU." Germany was the best, with tons of free stuff. I might end up on the embassy website at some point, I don't know. I did a really bad interview with them for it. I gathered some interesting information that will come in handy. I also networked at the Slovene embassy a little, but we will see where that gets me. The Austrian and Slovak ones were kind of just because I wanted the Austrian food and coffee and I like the country and the Slovak one was just across the street--but they had the best food, a little meatball with mustard on top. Very nice.
The whole thing was a lot of fun, but tiring and crowded. The buses were packed to the brim as they took you around town. I got 10 pins with German slang on them, 2 shirts and 5 pens in addition to some pamphlets and the like. Not a bad haul. If you want to see pictures, you have to email me, since all the interesting ones have my face in them.
Still no word on where I will be exactly in Germany three weeks from now...but be there I shall...at least I think.
